If Carnivale abroad is your thing, then you already know about Rio de Janiero. But have you heard about Trinidad? No doubt, Trinidad is the pack leader of the entire Caribbean’s Carnivale celebrations. Their bands, led by a muscle bound man named “Big Mike,” will again, in the words of Marvin Gaye, “Make you wanna holler and throw up both ya hands!”
Also in Trinidad, it’s acceptable for straight men to dress in drag during carnival by day. By night they will have changed back to the norm in order to mix and mingle amongst the locals, including the very celebrated local costume designers—most of which happen to be openly gay.
For the swankiest hotel scene in town, you’ll want to stay at The Carlton Savannah Court Hotel.
The most vibrant nightlife can be found within the Port of Spain, which is the island’s capital city. Add the Pelican—a British Pub style watering hole that draws a crowd of singles, professionals and the local gay community. Also, stay up with Facebook’s Gay Community of Trinidad & Tobago page.
They’re not ready!
